Teacher’s activities
1. Teacher firstly makes a self-introduction in order to present the new words “physics, however”. And play a short movie to review the knowledge of degrees of adjectives, which was done in the first period.
(about 5 minutes)
2. Make a guessing game in order to learn some more new words. Meanwhile mention some phrases orally. (activity between T and Ss)
(about 10 minutes)
3. Get to “3a”naturally by doing the guessing game. (What are Liu Li and Liu Ying like?)Ask Ss to do the chart that was prepared by the teacher. And finish the “True or false questions”.
Then check the answers.
(individual work or pair work)
(about 10 minutes)
4. Then go to the next activity by asking a question of “what is your friend like?”
Make Ss do a survey to practise the second part of the conversation. (pair work)
(about 5 minutes)
5. T: Do you want to make a new friend?
Then play a game of “Compare you and your new partner”(group work)
(about 13 minutes)
At last, summarize the class by using a proverb: A friend in need is a friend indeed. To lead Ss to set up a noble view of friends.

Ss’ activities
1 Listen carefully, try to understand the information about the teacher.
Learn the new words: physics,
however.
Read the following chants to revise the things that were learned.
Chant 1:
Big, big, bigger; Small, small, smaller.
Thin, thin, thinner;
Heavy, heavy, heavier.
Calm, calm, calmer; Wild, wild, wilder.
Chant 2:
Outgoing, outgoing, more outgoing.
Serious, serious, more serious.
Athletic, athletic, more athletic.
2. Take part in the guessing game bravely. And learn new expressions: as…as, both, be good at…, in some ways, in common, more than”.
3. Read the article quickly and fill in
the chart. Try to find the same
and differences between the two girls.
Then read the article again and finish the
“True or False” questions.
4. Finish doing the survey. Get to know some things about the partner and his friend. After that, write a short talk as homework according to the result of the survey.
5. Write his/her own name on a piece of paper and fold it three time and put it into a box. Later on pick another piece of paper with other’s name on. Think and write the same and differences between him/her and the new partner for three or more minutes. Read the sentences to the others of each group first. Then each group chooses a delegate and read his/hers to the whole class. Find the best delegate.
6. Think over a proverb:
